Sackville, New Brunswick

Sackville is a small town with just over 6,000 residents, located close to the border of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. This area is Mi’kma’ki- the unceded, ancestral land of the Mi’kmaq. The town centers around Mount Allison University, but has a strong history of agriculture and ship building.

Sackville has a small selection of shops and restaurants. There are two grocery stores and pharmacies, multiple banks, a handful of cafes and restaurants, and a few stores to find gifts, books and local art. The dollar store and thrift store may be particularly helpful if you find that you have forgotten to bring something to the conference.

  • Johnson's Mills Shorebird Reserve and Interpretive Center

The Nature Conservancy Canada operates and protects what is arguably the best place to watch migrating Semipalmated Sandpipers migrating through the Bay of Fundy. In mid-August, flocks often reach 100,000 sandpipers. The conference will include a trip to the center at the peak of the migratory season, which promises to be a memorable experience.
